Sandbox Book Club #9

Sandbox Book Club Recommendation #9
I'll See You In The Morning by Mike Jolley

This book is without question in my top three going-to-bed books.  Em pulled it off the shelf this afternoon fully aware of the irony that she wanted to read instead of sleep.  Must have been why she was in bed at 6 pm!

I'll See You In The Morning is one of the most vibrantly illustrated books in our collection, yet they aren't overstimulating.  They capture and hold a young child's attention beautifully.  I fully enjoy reading this book to my kids because of the scenes depicted and the whimsical images.

But as much as I love the illustrations, the words are that much sweeter.  It's a book all about trust, with a message that reassures kids and promises their beloved caretakers will be there in the morning.  And the descriptive language Jolley uses to weave a picture of bedtime--

"Don't be afraid of darkness.  Don't be afraid, my sweet.
The night is just a blanket that helps the earth to sleep."

And my very favorite, because I'm a closet co-sleeper and have never been able to bear listening to my babies cry:

"I'll be here if you need me.  I'm only steps away.
So close your eyes, go to sleep, and dream of a brand-new day."

It makes me all smiley and happy just thinking about it.  Happy, secure babies snug in their beds with attentive parents sleeping nearby.  Sleeping being the operative word, of course.

This books makes my kids happy, too.  It's a beautiful story and makes a perfect gift for new parents.

For a sweet story that will help everyone in the family transition to bedtime, I love I'll See You In The Morning.  It helps everyone sleep a little easier!

Bedtime has such a special place in my heart - it's MY time, OUR time. My husband is an early riser so he does the breakfast stuff -- but night time - that's me. And I wouldn't trade it for the world. Sleepy cuddles are the best.

This looks like a lovely book. I have a friend who is expecting, and I'll be bookmarking this for when her shower comes around! Thanks!

I have not heard of this book before, but sounds like a good read for my little ones. I am sure they will like it.

I'll be a member of your closet co-sleeper club. I do it more with my younger one than my older one when she was little, and luckily the transition wasn't hard at all when she moved to a full size bed.

What a precious smile in that last photo.

Stopping by from Home Sanctuary.
